To celebrate the 2019 return of HBO’s most prolific television series, we joined forces with Game of Thrones to rebrand the Timberwolves as the Direwolves. The campaign was solely a digital and merchandise play, but it was a whole lotta’ fun. I was tasked with concepting and writing Game of Thrones-esque copy to elevate the partnership.
Through this landing page, I told the story of the Timberwolves/Direwolves amalgamation with on-brand copy, and we gave fans the opportunity to buy merch sold exclusively at the Timberwolves team store website.
This was my favorite part. Via Twitter, I created Game of Thrones character monikers for each Direwolves member. Fans got a kick out of it. Retweets and likes everywhere. We got 2.5 million+ impressions in 12 hours, 120K interactions(holistically), and all of the players loved it. My personal favs: Crunch and Derrick Rose.
The Timberwolves into Direwolves got everyone excited - even those who weren’t basketball fans. The exposure was plentiful and garnered mentions from outlets like Dime Magazine and CBS Sports.
Even the players loved the partnership. We caught Karl-Anthony Towns rockin’ the gear on several occasions.
